YouTube Comedian

Richard Sandling has just restored a little bit of pride to those idiots who keep video diaries on the ever-useful YouTube. If you're worried you haven't heard of him, don't sweat. He is apparently a comedian who has a host of comic sketches and home footage bursts of information on the site under the guise of Buchan39. He has a video entitled I Love Videos, where he frantically declares his love for the black rectangular goldmine of VHS combined with the fun and games you can have whilst charity shopping.

The clip below shows Sandling telling of the saga when he bought a record on the basis that the lyrics would improve his life.

Listen to these, they're on my Stereo!

It was never going to take long before I felt the need to share some of my current listening delights with the blogging world. I've recently had the pleasure and time to revisit and discover bands that were before my time. However, no matter how many new noises tease my ears, I have found myself listening to the usual sounds at the end of the cold and lonely night.

Anyway, these two bands are really tickling my fancy and I believe they'll be tickling your ears a lot more in the not so distant future:

Dinosaur Pile-Up

THE coolest new band to arise from the mucky surroundings of Leeds and brainchild of Matthew Bigland, formerly of alt-rockers Mother Vulpine.

Ultimately raw with melodies and riff's galore, Matt tells tales of his misfortunes and desires in their jam-packed, quick-hitting pop tunes. They entertained the crowds at this years Leeds and Reading Festival and are picking up adoring fan's daily, possibly with the help of Drowned In Sound and NME bigging them up. They've also secured a tour support slot with The Automatic, whom I expect to be crushed Jurassic Park style.

Keep tabs on them for announcement's of their debut single and tour.
In the meantime, they feature on the brilliant On The Bone Records compilation number two, so go and buy that before they get massive.

Vivian Girls

Three hot girls playing carefree shoegaze tunes was always going to be a hit with my eyes and ears. I am quickly falling in love. They play out in Brooklyn, New York City and have their self-titled debut album released on the 7th of October. You can pre-order that shit right here from Rough Trade Records.

They seem to be pretty busy ladies, currently displaying an impressive tour on their Mypsace page. They'll be playing in and out of jaunts across, up and down the US of A, some parts of Canada and thank fucking God, England. Along the way they shall be sharing the stage with the likes of Jay Reatard, Times New Viking, Deerhunter and Fucked Up. See them at the Cockpit in Leeds on the 7th December.

The World Is Going To End

Next Wednesday, apparently...

So I thought it was at least my duty to quickly show you this inventive and unique idea that is taking, erm, London's black cab's by storm.

The Black Cab Sessions are quite simply that. A camera crew and a quite reputable act squeezed into the back of a black cab in the Capital.

Acts such as The National, Jeffrey Lewis, Wild Beasts, Fleet Foxes, Bon Iver and Seasick Steve have all taken to the sick-soaked seats.

Here's one of my favourites from the site, Illinois hip-hop duo Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish, who together make up the formidable, aptly named The Cool Kids:

Sean Conway ‘the UK’s coolest filmmaker’

This is a heads up to film-boffs or just people that generally enjoy good cinema. Sean Conway is starting to create a little bit of a stir within the short-film industry. He's from the same small, industrial town of Batley as I, but has spent the past few months jettin' around the world, shittin' on diamond encrusted toilet seats, hangin' at parties in Vegas with the Beastie Boys, been within smellin' distance of Britney Spears scalp, oh and attendin' the Premiere's of his short-films. He was declared as ‘the UK’s coolest filmmaker’ by actor Giuseppe Andrews and championed as 'a fucking genius' by Dazed and Confused co-founder Rankin.

Sean also once directed a music video for the now-deceased Leeds alternative/indie/electro outfit Parisman, which featured on MTV2 for twelve weeks running. It was all shot at the Primary School I attended. You can see the brilliantly-crafted video here.

So, he's currently pennin' a lot of scripts, which I'm sure will be hittin' a screen or pokin' your eyes in the not too distant future. If you're into your cuttin' edge and fearless British writers/directors then he's your man, I think.

In the past couple of weeks, my favourite terrestrial television station Channel 4 have shown two of his shorts as part of a 4Talent series. They have since received glowin' reviews in some of the usual places.

Alex and Her Arse Truck

"By far the best short of the series though had to be one directed by a young British filmmaker named Sean Conway entitled Alex And Her Arse Truck. Recalling the style of such films as Trainspotting, Alex And Her Arse Truck trades drug addiction for sex addiction and gives insight into the anything-goes lifestyle of young British deviants and their kinky fetishes while retaining a sense of playfulness and humor, not to mention a completely unconventional soundtrack to sweeten the deal. Before you’ve made heads or tails of what you’re looking at, Alex and Her Arse Truck is over and you’re left with a sense of the new and ultra-erotic that may well become Sean Conway’s signature; a signature worth revisiting as his status as filmmaker ascends in the coming years."

It is even rounded off with some Jeffrey Lewis. Perfect.

Kings of London

"Amid yet another summer of bland sport and tedious evictions, it’s reassuring to know that there are still programmes being made which at least try to bend our minds a bit. However, this latest installment of C4’s Generation Next project, to showcase the work of hitherto unknown directorial talents, takes mind-bending to breaking point. Kings of London follows the fortunes of two teenage black brothers, both named Aristotle, with the semi-alcoholic elder struggling to get his life on track, and the enigmatic younger becoming the undisputed champion of the Ghetto Riders, a group of young men from London’s rough estates who have transformed themselves into urban cowboys."

I'm A Perfect Piece Of Ass

I've still not decided whether this will just be a hopeless, yet self-satisfying outlet for myself, or whether I'll get any visitors to this dope-ass place.

Either way, it'll probably help me get things off my chest and trick myself that I'm actually being a really informative and helpful individual to people who aren't even there.
